I saw this as a Boston College freshman, walking down from campus to the Circle Cinema, now demolished. I left feeling utterly exhilarated. The energy of Die Hard is rarely matched. Speed and Terminator 2 are among its exalted peers.
ReplyDeleteI remember the Circle Cinema. I saw Volcano and Extreme Measures there, in that period where I would go to see pretty much anything. Not a bad place though I heard in later years they had a bit of a rat problem.
DeleteI didn't see this on the big screen until many years later. I can't imagine how incredible this must have been on first run, before every action movie became "Die Hard on a something." It has an elegance and simplicity and a sense of fun that seems sadly rare in the genre now.
Who's the A-hole in the podcast who keeps audibly YAWNING throughout the pod? I'm sorry; are we keeping you up? It's a DIE HARD podcast! One of the greatest, if not the greatest, actioneer of modern cinema and this guy can't get himself psyched up for it? Hat's off to the lead pod guy powering through this Debbie Downer Douche. DeleteScheduling guests onto the show can be tricky and to get this one recorded in time for Christmas meant we had to pick an awkward hour after the person in question had worked a very long and tiring shift. That he powered through is a tribute to his dedication and we are grateful for it.
